Read, Write, Inc
What reading books should my child be bringing home?
All our home readers are colour coded to match our Read Write Inc storybooks and book bands. Please check your child is bringing home the correct book band.
The government are strongly promoting the use of synthetic phonics when teaching early literacy skills to children. Synthetic phonics is simply the ability to convert a letter or letter group into sounds that are then blended together into a word.
At Skelton Primary School we use the ‘Read, Write Inc’ and ‘Fresh Start’ Programmes to deliver a systematic and synthetic phonics approach to Reading to get children off to a flying start with their Literacy. The Read Write Inc. programme enables every child to become a confident and fluent reader at the first attempt. Every child who completes Read Write Inc. learns to read fluently and confidently. Who is Read Write Inc. for? Read, Write Inc is a phonic and reading programme that has recently been implemented into our curriculum. In EYFS and KS1, children will follow a daily phonic programme to create fluent, enthusiastic readers, confident speakers and willing writers. In KS2, the ‘Fresh Start Programme’ is taught to groups of children who still need to develop their phonological awareness skills.
Why does it work?
- It is a systematic and lively reading programme
- All staff (teachers and assistants) are trained by one of the Read Write Inc trainers or our Reading Lead who has taught and managed the programme in school
- The children read and write for up to an hour each day, grouped according to their reading level.
