We want the children at Skelton to develop their knowledge of people and places, and to understand the physical, social and economic elements that affect our world and the people who live here. Our geographical studies cover local areas / issues and extend on to the wider world. The children learn to follow instructions, use maps to locate cities, countries, mountain ranges, rivers, seas and oceans. Children use arrange of sources such as atlases, photographs and the Internet to explore the environment and economies of a range of countries around the world. They then use the skills they have developed in literacy, numeracy and ICT to report and record their findings.
The world of today is a much ‘smaller’ place so our study of the wider world within our Big ideas aims to empower the children of today to become well informed, caring adults of the future.
