Key Stage Results

Across the Primary journey, children take part in national assessments in a variety of different ways. It is worth noting that these assessments are often carried out in a way that the children won’t even be aware of.

Information gathered for each child in Reception/FS2 (The Early Years Foundation Stage) is used to compile an Ealy Years Profile. Children are defined as having reached a Good Level of Development (GLD) at the end of the EYFS if they have achieved the expected level for the ELGs in the prime areas of learning (which are: communication and language; personal, social and emotional development; and physical development) and the specific areas of mathematics and literacy.

In Year 1 children complete a “Phonics Screening Check”. This is a national measure of a child’s understanding of letters and sounds.
In Year 2 (End of Key Stage 1) children complete the “SATs” in May. These are national assessments in Reading, Grammar and Spelling and Mathematics. Teacher assessment is used to level children’s writing. These tests are not statutory.

In Year 4 children take part in the “Multiplications Check”. This takes place in June. This test identifies the percentage of children who achieve full marks in the test (25/25). There is no pass mark for this test

In Year 6 (End of Key Stage 2) children complete the “SATs” in May. These are national assessments in Reading, Grammar and Spelling and Mathematics. Teacher assessment is used to level children’s writing.
